In this series, Margaret Lansink tries to understand why we humans often refuse to accept the simple notion of impermanence. Is it our fear of the unknown, our fear of giving up our security and comfort?
According to Margaret Lansink, accepting this impermanence allows us to access Beauty: Beauty of ideas, of human relationships, of our links with Nature. This immersion in Nature allows her to enter into a different temporality, to synchronize with the slow rhythm of nature, to become aware of its beauty, its changes. Margaret Lansink talks in this book about the "friction" of synchronizing humanity's eternal becoming with Nature, she juxtaposes our human time by photographing professional ballet dancers (who had to retire at 35) with images of the barren nature of Death Valley and other places, where time seems to play no apparent role. Together, they present the frictions that we humans must overcome in order to continue living on our planet.
