INGAR KRAUSS
PORTRAITS

Published by Hatje Cantz, 2005
Booksize 22 x 28 cm
Pages 102
Hardcover
Language, English

Without exception, the unusual photographs by Ingar Krauss (*1965 in Berlin) are portraits of children and teenagers in faded gray and sepia tones. The subjects look serious, proud, unapproachable, remote, and sometimes defiant-childlike, and yet too mature for their age. Frequently, the photographer finds his models at home and on his travels to typical childhood institutions of the former Eastern Bloc countries: summer camps, Socialist clubhouses for Young Pioneers, and orphanages. Krauss prints his black-and-white portraits on old photographic paper produced in Eastern Europe, which gives his pictures a timeless, melancholy tone.

Without exception, the unusual photographs of Ingar Krauss (*1965 in Berlin) are portraits of children and adolescents in faded gray and sepia tones. The subjects appear serious, proud, inaccessible, distant, and sometimes defiant - like children, and yet too mature for their age.
