'View from the Laboratory' by photographer Daido Moriyama is the result of his 2008 visit to a residential estate called 'Le Gras' in Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, France — where the first historical photograph was taken from the upstairs window in 1827.

“Photography began because Niépce thought, ‘Can we imagine a way to capture the exact images we see with our eyes and perceive with our minds?’ Was there a way to capture family members, a loved one, or good friends? What about the different things we encounter in everyday life or the landscapes we can see right now? This undeniable human desire was the driving force behind photography. Thus, my simplest theory about photography: ‘Photographs are memories.’”
