Japanese master photographer and living legend Daido Moriyama returns with a new issue of his “Records” series. Essentially a diary, Moriyama continues to publish his life in photographs in his “Records” series. In issue 52, Moriyama’s final months unfold as a cacophonous series of chance encounters, moments, and observations made in the streets, buildings, and skies of Tokyo. The combination and arrangement of his images—and the images themselves—convey an almost oppressive sense of the ceaseless energy of life that makes Tokyo the chaotic, irresistible, and inexhaustible source of Moriyama’s snapshots.
Publisher's text.
“On the occasion of the publication of volume 50 of Record magazine, my works were presented in a long-term slideshow event at the AKIO NAGASAWA gallery in Ginza, from late May to early October.
I have been there several times since the beginning of this program, placed myself among the 5,000 diverse images projected onto every square inch of the gallery walls by seven projectors, and had the strange experience of standing there, isolated from everyday life, and being hit from all sides by the showers of light... The strange and chaotic images of Tokyo, Marrakech, and New York that were perpetually projected onto the walls had disconnected themselves from the person who had taken them in favor of the notion of anonymity that is supposed to be inherent in a photograph. My authorship no longer mattered, and before I knew it, the projected images had transformed into the very "spirit" of photography.
