We are collaborating with Foto Femme United (FFU) to launch their first-ever photography competition and exhibition on the topic of media censorship. The pop-up exhibition will take place from March 12th to 21st. The competition was free and open to binary, non-binary, cisgender women and transgender people.

SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EDUCATE

FFU says that the censorship of art on social media is not only embarrassing: ruthless and random, but it hides a deeper dimension. April Wiser, founder of FFU, says that “social media giants like Instagram and Facebook, for example, demonstrate through these acts of censorship that the female form can and should only exist in a very limited space. Simply because a woman is naked, it means she must be sexualized. They even censor feminist activism and make it difficult for a voice or platform to be heard. This exhibition was created to provide a space for photographers to showcase their censored or banned art, as well as to educate the public about the injustices that exist on social media.”

CHALLENGING THE STATISTICS

Global statistics show that women still represent less than half of the photographers exhibited in major museums, competitions and photography fairs such as Paris Photo or Les Rencontres d'Arles. “We don't have to submit to the photography industry. We can demonstrate that we, as women photographers, are just as qualified and deserving of exhibition opportunities. We can take action and create our own competitions and organize our own exhibitions to give each other visible space,” says April Wiser, founder of the FFU.

A JURY OF AUTHORIZATION

The exhibition jury will be composed of Kinuko Esther Asano, curator and artistic director of Galerie &CO119 , Lou Tsatsas, journalist for Fisheye Magazine and April Wiser, founder of Foto Femme United .
