ALEXIA MONDUIT – UPON MY SWORD
Galerie &co119 is pleased to present an exhibition of recent works by the artist, Alexia Monduit.
Upon My Sword
On my sword walks a being of emptiness.
At the edge of the point, he bends his knees and falls.
The question of con ict lies on the sword.
Reversing mirrors, freeing faces, building shelters.
To photograph is to give the image of an action paralyzed by knowledge.
Instead of giving itself as knowledge it appears chained as a symptom.
I am alone with the sword and I walk, silently, in a world where winter is eating away spring.
Alexia Monduit
Alexia Monduit studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique. In 2009, she created a musical duet, pearl&john. Alexia presented her first exhibition INTO MY SONG at Galerie VU' in 2014 for the Month of Photography. Then was presented at Paris Photo in 2014 and 2015 by the Galerie VU' and exhibited at the Landskrona Foto Festival in 2015. Last autumn Silencio presented the bis version of INTO MY SONG.
She often said “no” much like Lewis Carroll's, Alice. She left her work in theater, moved to drawing, and met with photography. Alexia has always dreamed of going to the other side of the mirror, read the cards, through the skin, traverse, pierce and nally see. Little, she looked at her dolls and understood that they didn`t say everything, that they had a secret. She opened their heads to see what was behind: there was a hole of light. Alexia Monduit has always aspired to a life that would live like a dream. Suffocated with too much reality: why not imagine. She began with theater. Suddenly, she felt too lonely among others. She chose loneliness in the form of drawing. Drawings sewn with red thread, the remainder with a pencil on paper. Some things can be erased but the heart is well attached, the blood too, the red will not go away. And then one day her sister gave her a black cloth, she found shelter with a camera in her hand. Alexia Monduit says, ' the camera is a seismograph '. She begins with her face, the emotions that cross it. Her images are moments – later she makes sentences by assembling them. She writes with faces and what's behind them, inside them. There is black, and holes of light. There is danger. There are bodies that convulse, search. But in the life of Alexia Monduit, there are no subjects to consider, there is the pulse, the heart, the chest – and other necessities. It's the opposite to phrases like: I will work on my story . It's a life searching for shelters – she often pronounces that word. A shelter. A theater scene. Inside a camera.
