ON THE BORDER OF DREAMS

20.10.21 – EXTENSION UNTIL 30.01.22

OPENING ON 05.11.21

This fall, we will be presenting the work of Chieko Shiraishi, a Japanese photographer born in 1968 in Yokosuka, Japan. A true virtuoso of silver halide printing (she studied photography and darkroom development with Katsuhito Nakazato and Kazuo Kitai, among others), she uses the technique to better enhance her images.

For this exhibition, we wanted to present Shiraishi's work in a way that would show above all what makes his world unique: poetic and deeply introspective. This is why we brought together two of his series: Shimakage (The Shadow of the Islands) and Shikawatari (The Crossing of the Deer).

Her travels to the four corners of the Japanese archipelago, from the cacti of the south to the snowy landscapes of the north, become a pretext for photographic introspection. These cathartic images take us from the outside world to the inside world, revealing to us in turn the wonders, the darkness and the doubts that inhabit the photographer.
