Japanese photographic artist Michiko Kon uses everyday objects, such as shoes and hats, and foodstuffs, such as fish and fruit, to create objects and scenes from a strange world. This book, published on the occasion of Michiko Kon's exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura and Hayama, includes over 100 of the artist's works, from the beginning of her career to her recent work.
Kon's work has attracted critical attention both in Japan and abroad for its imaginative combination of ordinary objects and the mysterious nature of her creations. Featuring forewords by Japanese artist and poet Takashi Mutsuo, an extensive interview with Michiko Kon, essays by Nakamori Takafumi, senior curator at Tate Modern, and art critic Mizusawa Tsutomu, as well as an overview of her career (all texts are in Japanese with English translations), Philia is an ideal publication for anyone interested in Michiko Kon's work.
