After photographer Daido Moriyama's first trip to Hokkaido in the 1960s, he began documenting life on their archipelago. He returned to the island's cities until 2010, creating a photographic exploratory journey. After World War II, Moriyama was unable to photograph in Japan because the country was full of conflict. Therefore, by accident, he found Hokkaido and fell in love with it. Hokkaido contrasts the melancholy and everyday life of a rural society. Daido Moriyama was born in 1938 in Osaka and gained worldwide fame for his unique photography.
