On the occasion of the exhibition, Le Monde de Shoji Ueda, we are pleased to announce a collaboration with Espace Japon, an independent Franco-Japanese cultural center created in 1981 in Paris. Graphic designer Seiichi Horiuchi (1932-87), mastermind of the first Japanese newspaper entirely produced in Paris (now Ovni), played an important role in the creation of this space. A long-time friend of Shoji Ueda, the designer had the opportunity to work with the photographer in the 80s, for the Japanese lifestyle magazine Brutus . They had planned to create a children's book with Ueda's photographs and a text by Horiuchi. This dream could unfortunately not come true, but their minds will meet again on this occasion. In Shoji Ueda, Portraits Intimes , we present the artist's personal work, mainly on his family as well as his neighbors. Based on the book “KAKO's Tales of the Photography and life of SHOJI UEDA” written by Kazuko Masutani, his daughter, we discover the love and kindness that Ueda had for his family, and especially for his wife and his native region, Tottori. |
