X-RAY OF THE INTIMATE - 02.11.23 - 03.02.24

X-rays of the intimate
Tokyo Rumando, Sakiko Nomura, Sayuri Ichida, Emi Anrakuji

02.11.23 - 03.02.24

OPENING 02.11.23 - 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

We have the great pleasure of honoring four Japanese women photographers, Tokyo Rumando, Sakiko Nomura, Sayuri Ichida and Emi Anrakuji, on the occasion of a new collective exhibition entitled Radiographies de l'intime .

Observing one's body and that of others, representing one's body(ies), transforming them, challenging the perceptions of those who look... This is what these artists explore in their graphic photo series, which we have chosen to exhibit together to make room for feminine gazes and open a photographic dialogue on the intimate and its representations, both in Japan and in Western society.

Each in their own way, Tokyo Rumando, Sakiko Nomura, Sayuri Ichida and Emi Anrakuji take a look at intimacy. They photograph their own bodies or those of their models in stagings in which they are both creators and actors, to question and reappropriate their identity(ies). By pointing the lens at the intimate in a way that is sometimes frontal, disguised, metaphorical or hidden, they contribute to renewing representations of the female body, nudity, desire and sexuality , still mainly shaped by the male gaze.

We are delighted to showcase four Japanese women photographers in a new group exhibition entitled X-rays of intimacy, with Tokyo Rumando, Sakiko Nomura, Sayuri Ichida and Emi Anrakuji.

Using the camera to observe their own body or the bodies of others, representing these bodies, trans- forming them, challenging the perceptions of those watching... This is what these artists have been exploring in their series, which we chose to exhibit together in order to make room for women's views, and to open up a photographic dialogue on intimacy and its representations both in Japan and Western society.

Each in their own way, Tokyo Rumando, Sakiko Nomura, Sayuri Ichida and Emi Anrakuji focus on intimacy. They photograph models or themselves, in stagings of which they are both the creators and the actresses, to question and reappropriate their identity(ies). By focusing the lens on the intimate, whether in a frontal, disguised, metaphorical or concealed way, they help to renew representations of the female body, nudity, desire and sexuality, mainly shaped by the male gaze.
