Opening 26th September 6-9pm
Sophie Gabrielle is an Australian photographer and curator originally from Canberra and now based in Melbourne. After graduating from the Photography Studies College in Melbourne in 2015, she was a finalist in the Lensculture Art Awards in 2018 and then won Foam Talent in 2019.
Here we decided to exhibit not only his most famous series ( Worry For the Fruits the Birds Won't Eat , which won him the Foam Talent Award in 2019), but to explore, beyond the subjects of each series, what connected these three projects: WIP: Weeping Rock, Worry For the Fruit the Birds Won't Eat and BL_NK SP_CE . What emerges is a common approach to the narrative image that immerses the viewer in a universe that is at once nostalgic, mystical and dark – it almost feels like a Grimm's fairy tale.

After graduating from Melbourne's Photography Studies College in 2015, she was a Lensculture Art Awards finalist in 2018, then Foam Talent winner in 2019. We have chosen to exhibit not only her best-known series, Worry For the Fruits the Birds Won't Eat (with which she won Foam Talent), but also to explore the themes which link that series to her other two major projects, WIP: Weeping Rock and BL_NK SP_CE. What emerges is evidence of a common approach to narrative image, plunging the viewer into a universe which is at the same time nostalgic, mystical and dark – almost as if entering into a tale told by the brothers Grimm.
