– BEHIND THE GLASS BOOKSIGNING – BOOK SIGNATURE AND DISCUSSION

The title of the book, Behind the Glass, is based on the series that Alexandra Catière produced in Minsk and Moscow in 2005-2006. Conceived and designed by Chose Commune, this book brings this first series into dialogue with a selection of other works, including a new body of photograms — the artist's last experiments without a camera, conducted in a darkroom with light, sensitive paper, stones and grass.

For the past fifteen years, Alexandra Catière has illuminated faces, bodies and things, weaving an emotional and intimate story. From the former Soviet Union, her country of origin, to the United States where she worked for Irving Penn's studios, to France, her country of residence, this young photographer makes timelessness one of the major aspects of her creation. Resurrecting the humanist tradition, her images are those of the sensations and atmospheres that she manages to capture. She is now nominated for the 2018-2020 Élysée Prize.

Behind the Glass takes its title from Alexandra Catière's series shot in Minsk and Moscow in 2005-2006. Curated and designed by the young French publishing house Chose Commune, this book brings together photographs from this early unpublished series with additional selected images. Included is a new set of photograms; the artist's latest camera-less experiments composed with light, sensitized paper, pebbles and grass.
