SOPHIE GABRIELLE
Producing enigmatic works, as splendid as they are chilling, Sophie Gabrielle is an Australian photographer and curator, born in Melbourne in 1992. After graduating from the Photography Studies College in her hometown in 2015, she not only became a finalist in the Lensculture Art Awards in 2018, but she also won the Foam Talent the following year. Today, her work is exhibited in Australia, in Melbourne, but also in New York and Europe.
Through her artistic practice, Sophie explores her interest in mythology, spiritualism and psychology, creating poetic works that reflect the search for identity and the ambiguity of memory. She reappropriates scientific archival images, organic materials and portraiture to create a space where past and present coexist. She draws on the unknown, experiments with optical effects and studies chemical interactions, allowing her to photograph what is invisible to the naked eye.
Exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions, Sophie Gabrielle is also a board member of Good Moon Rising , an independent, not-for-profit collective that aims to create inclusive spaces for artists and musicians of diverse genres to be celebrated in Melbourne.

Through her artistic practice, Sophie explores her interest in mythology, spiritualism and psychology, creating poetic works that reflect the search for identity and the ambiguity of memory. She reclaims images from scientific archives, organic materials and uses portrait techniques to create a space where past and present coexist.
