Nous avons l’immense plaisir de mettre à l’honneur quatre femmes photographes japonaises, Tokyo Rumando, Sakiko Nomura, Sayuri Ichida et Emi Anrakuji, à l’occasion d’une nouvelle exposition collective intitulée Radiographies de l’intime.
Observer son corps et celui d’autres que soi, représenter son/les corps, les métamorphoser, défier les perceptions de celles et ceux qui regardent... C’est ce que ces artistes explorent dans leurs séries photographiques, que nous avons choisi d’exposer ensemble pour laisser place à des regards féminins et ouvrir un dialogue photographique sur l’intime et ses représentations, à la fois au Japon et dans la société occidentale.
Chacune à leur manière, Tokyo Rumando, Sakiko Nomura, Sayuri Ichida et Emi Anrakuji portent un regard sur l’intimité. Elles photographient leur propre corps ou celui de leurs modèles dans des mises en scènes dont elles sont à la fois créatrices et actrices, pour interroger et se réapproprier leur(s) identité(s). En pointant l’objectif sur l’intime de manière tantôt frontale, déguisée, métaphorique ou bien dissimulée, elles contribuent à renouveler les représentations du corps féminin, de la nudité, du désir et de la sexualité, encore majoritairement façonnées par le regard masculin.

We are delighted to showcase four Japanese women photographers in a new group exhibition entitled X-rays of intimacy, with Tokyo Rumando, Sakiko Nomura, Sayuri Ichida and Emi Anrakuji.
Using the camera to observe their own body or the bodies of others, representing these bodies, trans- forming them, challenging the perceptions of those watching... This is what these artists have been exploring in their series, which we chose to exhibit together in order to make room for women’s views, and to open up a photographic dialogue on intimacy and its representations both in Japan and Western society.
Each in their own way, Tokyo Rumando, Sakiko Nomura, Sayuri Ichida and Emi Anrakuji focus on intimacy. They photograph models or themselves, in stagings of which they are both the creators and the actresses, to question and reappropriate their identity(ies). By focusing the lens on the intimate, whether in a frontal, disguised, metaphorical or concealed way, they help to renew representations of the female body, nudity, desire and sexuality, mainly shaped by the male gaze.
